2024 Ohio Scottish Games Athletics

The Ohio Scottish Games & Celtic Festival and The Great Lakes Scottish Athletics Association require at least three athletes to be registered to proceed with a class. We further reserve the right to combine classes or swap out a class, where appropriate, to create a competitive class. Sign-in will begin at 8:00 AM and throwing will begin at 9:00 AM. The fee to enter is $40. All events take place on Saturday, June 22, 2024.
The registration fee covers your admission into the fairgrounds, a competitor T-shirt and athletic event entry.

Kilted Mile

Unique to the Scottish Games in Ohio is the Kilted Mile race, the only kilted running event in Ohio. Participants will assemble on the track at the Grand Stands. Morning registration will occur at 9:00 AM, race begins at 10:00 AM. Pre-Registration includes entry into the Fairgrounds and a T-shirt. If participants register morning of, they will not receive a t-shirt and will be required to pay admission to the gate. Winners will be ranked by time. Medals will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places. Kilts are required.

Haggis Hurling Contest - Open to all athletes and non-athletes (general public).

Rules & Information

  1. Every competitor will have one chance to toss the haggis (approximately 1lb.) for distance. Longest throw counts.
  2. The distance measured from the half whiskey barrel , in which you stand upon, to the first impact.
  3. All competitors must stand on top of a half whiskey barrel. Stepping off the barrel, leads to disqualification.
  4. Competitors may toss the haggis in any manner they wish, one hand or two, underhand, or overhand – all permitted.
  5.  A kilt is not required to participate.
  6.  Day of registration is also available and will close one hour before contest.

The athlete recognizes that participation in the Ohio Scottish Games activities involves risk of physical injury, including due to negligence on the part of the participant or others on the event field. The Ohio Scottish Games and Celtic Festival will take all possible precautions to prevent such injuries from occurring.

By signing herein, the participant voluntarily releases, waives, and relinquishes any current or future claims against the Ohio Scottish Games and Celtic Festival for personal injury, property damage or wrongful death occurring to the participant arising out of participation in the Games, and agrees to indemnify and save harmless the Ohio Scottish Games and Celtic Festival for personal injury, property damage or wrongful death.

I have full knowledge of the risks involved in this event and I represent that I am sufficiently physically fit and trained to participate safely in this event. I also agree to abide by the decision of the Ohio Scottish Games and Celtic Festival officials and their authorized representative(s) concerning my ability to participate safely in this event and agree that the Ohio Scottish Games and Celtic Festival officials may authorize emergency medical treatment on my behalf.

I also understand and agree that any photographs, videos, or other recordings that may be made by the Ohio Scottish Games and Celtic Festival; of the Athletes for any competition may be used by the Ohio Scottish Games and Celtic Festival.
